We secured our place in the final of this tournament after a good win over Milltownpass on Wednesday evening last in Ballinagore. Milltownpass were a very well drilled and skilful outfit and we were flattered to go in at half time with a two goal lead. Two early second half goals were crucial for Lilliput Gaels and try as they might our opponents could not bridge the gap and our lads earned themselves a well deserved place in the final of this illustrious tournament.

We took on Caulry in the Garrycastle Tournament in Ballinagore on Friday evening. Having lost to Kinnegad in our previous game we needed to win here to advance to the Plate Semi Final of the tournament and  in the end we prevailed by three points. Caulry had a one point lead at half time but we done well in the second half to gain a six point lead before a late Caulry goal made for an interesting close to a great game.

We took part in the Jim McHugh (Garrycastle) tournament where we lost  to Kinnegad in a very entertaining game played in Castletown on Friday last. The large crowd present were treated to a thriller and for long periods of the game we looked likely winners but a late goal from Kinnegad sealed the win for them:

This side are certainly the form team at under 12 level in Westmeath as they kept their unbeaten run in tact with a good win over Tubberclair in Ballinagore. These boys play excellent football and their coaches deserve great credit for the time they dedicate to looling after this team.

Following on from their great win against Athlone our under 12’s defeated another of the big town teams with this excellent two point win over St Lomans in a  league game played in Lakepoint Park. Conditions were poor for good football but by half time we had a healthy lead of 2.10 to 1.03. St Lomans came out fighting in the second half and with the help of two late goals they almost pulled off a shock win but the full time whistle came just in time. Lilliput Gaels under 12’s had a good win against Athlone in the league on Monday evening in Castletown. Both sides were very evenly matched and it took a late goal to finally get the better of a very game Athlone outfit in a very exciting and sporting game.

Our U12’s enjoyed a good win this evening in Ballinagore. Taking advantage of the strong breeze we went in at half time with a very healthy  4-11 to 0-02 lead but our opponents also made use of the elements in the second half by making a great comeback. Our U12 team overcame a good Millmore Gaels side on Wednesday evening in Milltown. Played in windy and wet conditions Lilliput Gaels elected to play with the wind in the opening half and amassed a 1-05 to 0-01 lead by halftime . Our defence done well to hold our opponents to just four points in the second half and we ran out deserving winners .

Our Under 12’s and St Mary’s played out an exciting game in Castletown on Monday evening last played in damp conditions . It was nip and tuck throughout the first half and we went into the break just two points down. With time almost up we looked home and dried when we held a three point lead but a quickfire 1-02 from our opponents gave them the win on the evening.

Our under 12’s travelled to Moate on Tuesday evening last  to take on the All Whites in their first outing of the year. The sides were level at the half time break but a far more physically strong Moate side pulled away in the final quarter to record a nine point win.

Our U12 team had a great win in the Garrycastle final on Thursday evening last in  wet  conditions under lights in Garrycastle. After a great first half of end to end football we held a slender three point lead and it looked to be anyone's game at that stage. We really turned on the style in the second half and after several brilliantly worked scores we ran out deserving winners.

We hosted Tubberclair in Castletown on Wednesday night and what a game the large crowd present were treated to. Both sides were very evenly matched and were level pegging at half time with the defenders keeping a tight rein on their opposing forwards. In an exciting second half we just held out to win a cracking game by two points.  Well done to all involved in training these two teams as the skills on show were top class.

We travelled to Tang on Wedneaday evening to take on Maryland/Tang and came away with a resounding victory. Our team put on a fine exibition of football with all our panel getting game time and the work on the training ground is certainly showing on matchdays with these players.

We welcomed Caulry to Ballinagore on Wednesday evening and after a brilliant game of football between two evenly matched sides we narrowly lost out at the final whistle.




Annual Days Bazaar Under 12 Tournament, Saturday 8th of October.

Our underage club ran their annual under 12 tournament for the Days Bazaar Trophy in Castletown on Saturday last. The home side took on Mullingar Shamrocks in one semi final while Tyrellspass played St. Lomans in the other semi. After two close games ourselves and Lomans qualified for the final which was won by the visitors on a scoreline of 0-6 to 0-3 after a fantastic game. Shamrocks  defeated Tyrellspass in the plate final and all players received medals and refreshments after the game.  Well done to all players, mentors, referees and parents for contributing to a great days sport.

This side suffered their first defeat of the year when Mullingar Shamrocks took us on in Loughnavalley. Our lads can be very proud of their performance, especially in the second half, and hopefully we will get back to winning ways in our next fixture.

Our Under 12's are certainly the team of the year as they remained unbeaten in all competitions when they annexed The Days Bazaar Cup in fine style in Castletown Geoghegan on Sunday last. On a lovely dry morning, The Downs and St. Lomans kicked off the Tournament followed by the meeting of the home side and Tyrellspass. With wins for St. Lomans and St. Malachys/Ballinagore this left this pairing in the Cup final with The Downs facing Tyrellspass in Shield final. The Downs just pipped Tyrellspass to win the Shield  final and after their game recieved their medals from our underage Chairman, Mick Fagan .The huge crowd present were treated to a masterclass of free flowing football by both teams in the Cup final with our lads saving their most impressive performance of the year to prove worthy winners of the final. Amidst much jubilation, Adrian Murphy presented The Days Bazaar Cup to winning captain, Warric Kirby, followed by the presentation of medals to all players. All present were treated to refreshments by the hard working ladies which was welcomed by everyone. This Tournament proved to be a huge success due to the hard work of our underage committee, also the U 12 mentors  Sean Claffey, Connor Elliffe and Olly Kirby, refereees Liam McDaniel and Kieran Glennon and most of all the players and parents of all four teams.

On Saturday last our Under 12’s took on Millmore Gaels, in the Jim McHugh Memorial Plate Final hosted by  Garrycastle Football Club. We came up against a very strong Millmore side on the day and lost out on a scoreline of St. Malachys/Ballinagore 1-7, Millmore Gaels 6-6. Thanks to Garrycastle for inviting us into this very well run tournament and well done to all the panel and their mentors for doing our club proud.

The final is fixed for Saturday 25th of October at 5pm in Garrycastle with Millmore Gaels providing the opposition.

After going down narrowly to Garrycastle in the previous round we faced our hosts in the final and what a game it turned out to be with the result in doubt until the final whistle. A feature of the game was the ability of both sides to score points as usually in this age group teams record as many goals as they do points.. Under 13 Blitz in Milltownpass

We were invited to a blitz in Milltownpass on Sunday last where Killucan and Shandonagh made up the quartet for a four team tournament. After overcoming Shandonagh on a scoreline of 4-13 to 2-07 we took on Milltownpass in the final where we were beaten by a score of 5-15 to 4-07. Our thanks to Milltownpass for inviting us to play in the blitz and to our mentors for coaching the team and the player’s  parents for turning up on the day to lend their support.

We can count ourselves lucky to have come away with a draw in this game played in Ballinagore. Millmore Gaels enjoyed a greater share of possession throughout the game but they registered too many wides which always left our side in with a chance and so it proved  when we scored a last minute point to draw the game. The Under 12 team played Moate in Moate last Wednesday and recorded a very comprehensive victory playing a very attractive brand of direct football.  On the day we welcomed back William Hayes after a recent injury and indeed he as a colossus in the goals.  Unfortunately Brendan Heaney and James Bermingham our midfield partnership picked up injuries in the second half and needed to be replaced.  We wish both a speedy recovery.
