During the night our Chairman, Frank Kiernan, made presentations to Jim Dalton who recently retired as schools coach in our area and to the evergreen Paddy Corcoran who is entering his 25th year as a senior footballer with St. Malachys. Paddy then presented the Underage Footballer of the Year for 2011 to a very deserving winner in Michael Dever. Finally last years Chairman, Alo Geoghegan, presented Sinead Kiernan with a voucher for all her work in texting club activities and for looking after the kit.
Well done to all involved in organising the night especially Pat and Collette Garvin who put a lot of work into the smooth running of the event, to Phonsie Keenan for hosting the night and to our Supporters Club for sponsoring the lovely trophies.

The following people generously donated spot prizes for our draw, Barney Drake, May Kirby, Paul Claffey, Matt Kirby, Andrew Drake, Pat and Colette Garvin, Pat Clavin, Ray and Sandra Gavigan, Ciaran and Michele Kirby, Phonsie Keenan and Terry Clarke of Versatile Hair Salon.

We had a very enjoyable and sucessful weekend in New Ross where we participated in the Horeswood Seven-a-side competition.  Our first game was against Good Counsel College which we won by 5-4 to 5-3.  Next up were Adamstown who we defeated  by 5-8 to 3-6.  Our final game of the group pitted us against Clongeen who we beat 2-6 to 1-6 to top our group and qualify for the knock-out stages of the Cup competition on Sunday.  On Saturday night we joined the host club at their Barbeque and music which was held in their very impressive indoor astro turf facilities, which had been opened by GAA President Christy Cooney earlier in the evening.

On Sunday a very tired but happy outfit took on Taghmon/Camross in the quarter final.  Yet again the team surpassed all expectations and recording a resounding 1-12 to 2-2 victory thus qualifying us for the semi-final.  In the semi-final we faced tournament favourites Arles-Kilcruise from Laois.  We held our own up to half time until a quesionable sending off left us a man down for the second half which took its toll on tired legs and we lost on a scoreline of 1-10 to 5-5.

Thanks to the Horeswood Club for their invitation and hospitality on a weekend to remember for those who were there.  Visit the photos page to see photos.

Camp of Excellence

Despite the terrible weather conditions over the three days the Camp of Excellence for 12 to 16 year olds held in Pairc Mhic Eochagain was an outstanding success.

Over 25 boys took part each day and under the supervision of coach Eddie Bouabbse everything went to plan.  As well as Eddie, we had coaches of the calibre of Gary Sammon, Caleb Cairns and Meath star Graham Geraghty take sessions with the boys.

The club would like to thank our own coaches Paul Newman, Mark McDermott and Ciaran Kirby for their help with the camp.  The boys will be receiving their kit over the next few weeks which is always appreciated by all participants.  Check out our photos page for pictures from the camp.

Last Friday night's reunion of the 1967 team turned out to be an outstanding success.  Held in the impressive surroundings of Middleton Park House, a large turnout enjoyed catching up with old friends and colleagues.  Outgoing Club Chairman Pat Garvin, forgot no-one in his impressive address and after presenting the Annual awards and a special award to Kathryn Nea, he handed over to the equally eloquent Seamus Whelan who acted as MC for the presentation to the 1967 team.  Joe Clarke, Manager of that team, made the presentation to each player and in turn was made a lovely presentation by team captain, Jimmy Hackett.
